DIE ENGINEERING

Progressive Tool Company (PTC) employs four Die Tool Engineers whose responsibilities are working directly with our customers providing quotations, die concepts, and a one person contact at PTC. The Tool Engineer assigned to your company will be responsible for the above mentioned, and also will be totally responsible for the die project as it flows through our facility until it is completed.

DIE DESIGN

PTC employs five full-time CAD designers. Presently, four are utilizing CADKEY and one utilizes Autocad with Striker. PTC believes it is advantageous to keep our designs in house for better control internally, and our designers also get to know our customers' needs and requirements by working closer with them on design reviews.

PTC is utilizing a 4.11 Novell network allowing plant wide communication of CAD and CAM data, plus work in process and account tracking.

DIE MANUFACTURING

Within the last year, PTC has reconfigured its work flow in process capabilities and feels confident this change has increased our capabilities and efficiency. PTC utilizes a job planner who processes all the die components through the block prepping area, CNC machining, heat treat, grinding, wire EDM, jig grinding, inspection, assembly, die developing, tryout and piece part inspection. Work is routed using our employees where their talents are best utilized for efficiency. All this has shortened our lead time capabilities.

DIE COMPONENT REPLACEMENT CAPABILITIES

PTC has increased our capabilities in the manufacturing of spare die components for dies we have manufactured and for dies our competitors have manufactured. By stocking the right raw tool steels and utilizing our six CNC machining centers, seven wire EDMs, in-house heat treat, grinding and inspection capabilities, PTC is now heavily involved in vendor stocking programs for many of our current customers. Approximately 40% of our total output is manufacturing replacement details for current production dies.
